Being the home of Otaku culture, it’s no wonder that Japan has a series of events dedicated to anime, manga, video games and the like. Twice a year in Tokyo, Wonder Festival is an event that showcases various figures and model kits from some of the countries finest manufacturers, as well as massively talented individuals who show off their Garage Kits and specialist items.
Like Comiket and TGS (Tokyo Game Show) there are cosplayers a plenty, and bigger companies like Good Smile Company go all out to show off their in production pieces, with stage shows from idol singers (no photos allowed 🙁 ), decorated racing cars and concept pieces.
Plenty of opportunities for photos, including sitting in the head of ‘Chamber’ from Gargantia
Cosplayers attracting huge crowds as always.
Of course, there is a huge amount of variety on display, with anime characters proving popular, as do older staples like Ultraman and Godzilla.
I’m not a figure expert but I do love looking at the artwork and craftsmanship that goes into these collectable pieces. With a full 3 exhibition halls full of tables and event spaces, it was easy to spend a full day just wandering around and looking at all the goodies on display.
Let’s have a look at some of the things on display, and let me know your favourite characters in the comments!
YOTSUBA & Danboro!
